First of all, strictly speaking, if your laser cutter is enclosed properly it should not be possible to be exposed to the laser.  However, safety equipment is designed to protect you when things don't go as planned and so even though my laser is fully enclosed I still wear eye protection.  If your laser is not enclosed it is even more critical that you have some type of protection.  Don't be fooled by the low power diode lasers either, they are dangerous and you need to protect yourself.  It doesn't take much to damage an eye.

You should wear eye protection that is designed to protect you from your specific laser.  This means that you must consider the type of laser and what frequency and power it is capable of.  The best place to find that information is from the manufacturer.  Once you know the details on your machine, you can look for laser eye protection that is designed to protect you from that specific type of laser source.  This will vary from user to user based on the equipment they are operating.
